Maiden Voyage

I wanted to start a new blog so I can vent on some current issues of the day, and keep it out of our family blog. So this being my maiden voyage on this blog, I thought I would come out swinging. Recently, I heard President Obama, and the usual suspects, gleefully state that the economy is on the rebound. His proof was the latest GDP numbers (gross domestic product).Really? Are you kidding me? First of all, where are all the jobs? Can't have a rebound and growth without jobs. Second, let's talk GDP for a second. Now, I'm no financial genius. Not even close. But I do know some things. I do pay attention. Gross domestic product is the total market value of all final goods and services produced in a country in a given year. It is measured in three ways. Consumer spending; Pretty self explanatory. Investment spending;stock market, small business investments, etc, and government spending. While all three showed increase, guess which one was highest. Shocker, I know. Government spending. Mr. President. In the real world, where people have to deal in real money, government spending does not equal growth! It equals more government bureaucracy. To make matters worse, a lot of the consumer spending was from "Cash For Clunkers" Not exactly consumer spending, now is it? Spending our money like you were Courtney Love in a crack house, and then just printing more, doesn't boost the economy. It will cause inflation. Think your dollar doesn't go far now? You ain't seen nothing yet. So, for now, what little money I do have, I'm going to hold on to. I may have to pay a fine for not having health insurance. But don't get me started.
